How To Wire Your Layout For DCC

Wiring your layout for DCC is different to wiring it for conventional DC running in two main ways. Firstly, the track current is AC rather than DC. Secondly, the voltage on a DCC layout is constant and always on at full power - the loco decoder decides how much current the motor should receive and therefore how fast the train should go. On a DC layout, the voltage is variable according to the amount of power you have selected using your controller.
